Novocain made local anesthesia safe and routine, so patients no longer had to endure dental treatment in pain.
1945
Grand Rapids became the first city to fluoridate its water, preventing tooth decay for whole communities at very low cost.
1957
Air-turbine drills made treatment faster and more comfortable, so each dentist could care for far more patients.
1965
Per-Ingvar Brånemark’s team treated the first patient with titanium implants that fuse with bone, transforming how missing teeth are replaced.

Every new tool has to prove it makes care safer or better before we use it. We plan surgery with 3D CBCT imaging, place sedation IVs with ultrasound guidance, and follow strict anesthesia and sterilization protocols.
